'Campaign' posters for Ghana cardinal hit pre-conclave Rome

Rome, March 1 - Signs promoting the candidacy of
Ghana's Cardinal Peter Turkson for pope have begun popping up
all over Rome in an apparent spoof.
The signs, which read 'Vote Turkson', are styled after
Italian political campaign posters during elections, which took
place across the country earlier this week.
According to some bookmakers, Turkson is favored to succeed
Benedict XVI, who spent his first day as pope emeritus Friday
after stepping down Thursday in a move unheard of in 600 years.
Campaigning for pope is strictly forbidden by conclave
The conclave of cardinals to elect a new pope may begin as
soon as next week.
Speculation has been heavy that the successor to the throne
of St Peter will come from Africa or Latin America, where the
Catholic Church is growing the most.
