Vatican City, March 1 - The Vatican spokesman said
Friday that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was pleased with
television coverage of his last day in office on February 28.
Benedict XVI ''watched several news bulletins'' on Thursday
evening at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo south
of Rome, Father Federico Lombardi said.
''He greatly appreciated the participation and good
presentation made of these intense and moving moments,'' he
added.
Last month Benedict XVI became the first pope in nearly 600
years to stand down from the papacy, due to diminishing physical
and mental strength.
Cardinals are to meet on Monday to begin preparatory talks
for the conclave to elect his successor.
The election is expected to take place in the second week
of March.
