Naples, March 19 - Family members of a boy who
choked to death Tuesday in a kindergarten in Naples laid siege
to the school after the boy was pronounced dead at a local
hospital.
A small group of relatives of four-year-old Patrizio, who
died of suffocation from a piece of mozzarella, entered the
Sabatino Minucci kindergarten and elementary school, threatening
teachers.
Patrizio was taken to the Cardarelli hospital less than
one kilometer away when his teacher realized that the boy was
choking in the school cafeteria.
The husband and wife owners of a pizzeria across the
street from the school rushed the boy to the hospital when they
heard the teacher cry for help.
Doctors removed an olive-sized piece of cheese that was
blocking the boy's air passage, but he was pronounced dead on
arrival.
"It is unthinkable that in a school where there is a
cafeteria that not one person was able to cope with the
situation. Across the street there is a pharmacy and further
down the road a clinic," said one student's mother.
