New Kercher trial could start before summer

Florence, March 26 - The new appeals trial into the
2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher could start
before the summer, Italian judicial sources said Tuesday.
Italy's supreme Court of Cassation has ordered a new trial,
which will take place in Florence, after it quashed Amanda
Knox's and Raffaele Sollecito's acquittals by Perugia's appeals
court in 2011.
At the original trial in 2009 Knox and Sollecito were
handed 26-year and 25-year sentences respectively.
The judicial sources said the starting date of the new
trial will depend on the Florence court's hearings schedule and
the length of the trials currently taking place.
But they said the case should return to court relatively
quickly, which means it could start before the summer.
