Rome, April 9 - Italy's centre left on Tuesday
blasted the 5-Star Movement's threat to occupy the Lower House
in protest at the failure to set up the new parliamentary
commissions.
"The threat to occupy the floor of the House is
undemocratic," said Luigi Zanda, the Senate whip for the
centre-left Democratic Party.
Zanda was speaking after a meeting of Upper House whips in
which a "big majority" decided that the new commissions could
not be launched until Italy has a government to replace outgoing
Premier Mario Monti's technocrat administration.
A meeting of House whips decided the same.
In addition to threatening to occupy the House until a
minute after midnight following Tuesday's debates, the 5-Star
Movement (M5S) has also asked its supporters to stage a protest
in the square outside the building.
The M5S has said that on Thursday it will put measures it
considers to be crucial to a sort of 'shadow commission'.
