Fiat-owned Chrysler recalls 260,000 vehicles

Rome, April 10 - Fiat-controlled Chrysler is
recalling more than 260,000 vehicles worldwide for mechanical
and electronic problems.
The affected models of cars, SUVs and pick-up trucks were
produced between 2007 and 2012 and most were sold in the United
States, Canada and Mexico.
Included in the recall were about 139,000 Chrysler 300s,
Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger vehicles, all assembled
between April and December 2011, with defects in the dashboard
Another 78,500 SUVs including 2007 and 2008 Dodge Nitro and
Jeep Liberty models are being recalled for transmission trouble.
Also affected are several Ram model pick-up trucks, Jeep
Compass and Patriot models and a few Dodge Darts found to have a
hand-brake defect.
Turin-based Fiat owns about 60% of Chrysler and managers
plan to merge the two automakers.
Fiat took over Chrysler in 2009 following bankruptcy and
turned its fortunes around.
In fact, these days the Chrysler side of operations are
performing better, thanks to its strong sales in North America,
while Fiat has been hit by the recent troubles of the European
auto market.
