Monti says forecasts conservative, Italy may do better

Rome, April 10 - Outgoing Premier Mario Monti said
Wednesday that the forecasts contained in the government's
economic blueprint, the DEF, were conservative and that Italy
may outperform the estimates.
"We count on the country doing even better than the
estimates," Monti told a press conference after the cabinet
approved the DEF.
He said the gross domestic forecasts contained in the DEF
were "prudential".
He added that, without the reforms his administration has
introduced, Italy would be facing "zero growth".
Monti's emergency administration of unelected technocrats
introduced a series of structural economic reforms, including
liberalisations of some sectors of the economy, controversial
changes to the labour market and measures to make it easier to
set up a new business.
