Concordia passengers' lawyers hope to expand investigation


Grosseto, April 12 - Some 30 lawyers representing
shipwrecked passengers of the Costa Concordia vessel have
descended on the town of Grosseto, where a preliminary hearing
next week is to be held with the intent of bringing a suit
against the cruise ship's board as well as against the directors
of its parent company Carnival Corporation.
Lawyers will start by filing a formal complaint with
prosecutors on Monday, hoping the action will trigger a wider

Tuscany after an allegedly rash manoeuvre by Captain Francesco
Schettino resulted in the Concordia hitting a rock.
Schettino claims his actions saved more lives than were
lost, and is in turn suing to get his job back
On Monday a preliminary hearing begins in the trial of
Schettino, suspected of multiple manslaughter and abandonment of
post before the evacuation of all 4,200 passengers and crew.
"The objective is that Grosseto prosecutors extend their
investigation into the companies to verify if there was any
collusion with those that are currently indicted in the trial,"
said Cesare Bulgheroni, a lawyer from Milan.
