F1: Alonso warns tough times ahead after Chinese dominance

Rome, April 15 - Fernando Alonso has warned there
will be tough times ahead for Ferrari despite the dominant style
of his victory at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Italian team got their strategy and the pit-stops
perfect in a highly technical race and Alonso bounced back with
an impressive drive after crashing out of the previous race in
The excellent showing also confirmed that Ferrari's 2013
race car, the F138, is competitive.
Indeed, Alonso said after the race that the F138 seemed to
have some pace "in the pocket" when he was leading the field in
Nevertheless, the Spaniard is refusing to get carried away
with his first victory since July, as he knows the rival teams
are working hard to catch up, especially three-time world
champions Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull.
"We need to be careful on that and maximise these type of
weekends, when everything goes well, but I'm sure we will
struggle on some other weekends and we need to maximise the
points there," said Alonso, who also did well in qualifying to
start third on the grid in Shanghai.
"Sometimes we can win, sometimes the maximum is third or
fifth but we need to do the job," added the driver, who climbed
to fourth in Formula One's all-time grands prix winners' list
with his 31st victory to move alongside Britain's 1992 champion
Nigel Mansell.
Alonso, who finished second in the season-opening
Australian Grand Prix, is third in the drivers' standings with
43 points from three races, six points behind Lotus's Kimi
Raikkonen and nine behind leader Vettel.
His Brazilian teammate Felipe Massa climbed up to second
early in China but got boxed in the midfield after a pit-stop
and finished sixth.
That contribution helped Ferrari cut Red Bull's lead in the
constructors' championship to five points ahead of next Sunday's
Bahrain Grand Prix.
"I'm looking forward to next weekend because it's a very
good test with very high temperatures and we will again see some
problems and we need to deliver when the tough moments arise,"
said Alonso.
"I expect a tough race again. In Bahrain I think we will
see different conditions and who knows how competitive anyone
can be.
"But (we've seen) from the races that we finished this year
that the car seems to be able to be on the podium, so we hope to
be on the podium again in Bahrain".
