Senators get 'email bomb' supporting Rodota' for president

Rome, April 17 - An angry representative of the
Democratic Party (PD) charged Wednesday that his colleagues were
being bombarded by emails urging them to vote a rival politician
as the new Italian president.
"For several hours now a cyber attack has been underway in
the form of serial emails sent to mailboxes of PD members of
parliament to support the candidacy of Stefano Rodota'," said PD
Senator Federico Fornaro.
His complaint came just hours after Rodota', 82, agreed to
stand as presidential candidate for the anti-establishment
5-Star Movement of comedian Beppe Grillo.
Rodota' is a constitutional lawyer, former head of Italy's
privacy authority and former Communist and centre-left MP.
Fornaro said he didn't think Rodota' had anything to do
with the email storm.
Lawmakers from the Lower and Upper Houses of parliament
along with representatives of Italy's regional governments will
begin voting for President Giorgio Napolitano's successor on
Rodota has been seen as a candidate who may also be able to
garner support from parts of the PD.
