Bersani confident of finding exit from presidential impasse

Rome, April 18 - A solution will be found to the
apparent impasse in electing a new Italian president, Democratic
Party leader Pier Luigi Bersani said Thursday.
He spoke after his candidate, Senate Speaker Franco Marini,
failed to win the two-thirds majority needed in the first round
of voting earlier in the day.
Marini failed even though he had the support of ex-premier
Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right People of Freedom (PdL) party
as well as some PD members.
Speaking to reporters later, Bersani said he was unfazed.
"You will see that we will find a solution," he said.
"We will bring together the assembly of electors and you
will see that the solution will be found".
