Rome, April 18 - Franco Marini's failure to become
Italian president in the first ballot in Thursday's presidential
election shows Italians are saying no to backroom political
deals, says ani-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Beppe
Grillo.
"Italy does not want backroom deals," Grillo wrote Thursday
on his blog after the results of the first vote came in.
"The war is over".
Grillo had publicly blasted the two biggest parties in
parliament, the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) and the
centre-right People of Freedom (PdL), after both said they would
vote for Marini.
He accused them of making private political deals that
would "decide the destiny of 60 million Italians".
The M5S chose its presidential candidate, former Communist
party MP and privacy authority chief Stefano Rodota', after an
online vote of its members.
On his blog, Grillo blasted PD leader Pier Luigi Bersani,
who he has called "a dead man talking", for cooperating with the
PdL and its leader Silvio Berlusconi, who Grillo calls a
"psycho-dwarf".
"No one has explained to Bersani that Italy has changed, it
does not want more backroom deals with the psycho-dwarf," wrote
Grillo.
"The war is over, give up", he added.
"Deliver us forever from your presence, we are exhausted".
