Rome, April 24 - Young Italians are finding work on
the farm, according to an analysis by Coldiretti.
Agriculture was one industry that saw an increase in
employment in 2012 - a jump of 3.6%, the farm organization said
in a report released Wednesday.
The data, drawn from Italy's national statistics agency,
shows that many of the new jobs were going to workers under 40
years, a group that has been especially hard hit by
unemployment.
Italy's economy has been mired in a recession that has seen
a steadily climbing jobless rate and decreased opportunities for
youth.
Growth opportunities in the sector is also demonstrated by
a 29% jump in enrollment in agricultural vocational schools and
13% in technical colleges related to agriculture, agribusiness
and agro-industry, according to Coldiretti.
