Pope's meeting with Madagascar leader highlights relations


Vatican City, April 26 - Pope Francis' meeting
with Madascar President Andry Nirina Rajoelina on Friday was
focussed on discussing the cordial relations that currently
exist between the Holy See and the African island nation,
according to a statement released from the Vatican press office.
The two leaders also discussed the efforts made by
Madagascar to institute stability and democracy within its
nation, as well as the attempts made to further promote economic
development and the reconstruction of international diplomatic
relations, the statement said.
"The contributions being made by the local Catholic church
in support of national dialogue, as well as its indispensable
and wide-spread support of the Madagascar health and education
sectors, were also highlighted," according to the press release.
The head of state met with Vatican Secretary of State
Tarcisio Bertone following his appointment with the pontiff.
