Letta and Kerry agree on EU-US free trade area

Rome, May 9 - Italian Premier Enrico Letta and US
Secretary of State John Kerry agreed on Thursday on the need "to
proceed rapidly to create a free trade area between the European
Union and the United States" which they both consider "a driving
force for growth" for the two continents, a source in the
premier's office said after the two held talks in Rome.
Kerry arrived in the Italian capital on Wednesday for his
second visit since taking office.
On Thursday Kerry met Letta, the leader of Italy's new
left-right government, whom he has described as "a trusted
friend of the US," and later Italian Foreign Minister Emma
Bonino to discuss Syria and the Israeli-Palestinian peace
