Fiat stars in ANSA's New York, Washington photo show

Turin, May 14 - As a vivid and popular
international symbol of Italy, it seems only natural that
automotive giant Fiat would play a prominent role in a current
exhibition of Italian culture and style now showing in the
United States.
After all, as Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne likes to say,
there will always be a piece of Italy in every Fiat that is sold
around the world.
Fiat is a prominent actor in, as well as one of the
sponsors of, the Tour Around Italy photography exhibition
created by the the ANSA news agency to better explain and
promote Italy abroad.
Tour Around Italy, which is showing simultaneous at the
Italian embassy in Washington and at the Italian Institute for
Foreign Trade (ICE) in New York, is co-sponsored by the foreign
ministry, the Italian embassy and the Milan Expo 2015 committee.
In fact, the exhibit is part of the wider initiative: 2013
- Year of Italian Culture in the United States, which is
designed to boost awareness throughout the US of all that Italy
has to offer.
The Year of Italian Culture involves more than 180 events
curated by the Italian embassy in Washington and by Italian
consulates and cultural institutes in more than 40 US cities.
At the official opening of the Tour of Italy exhibition in
Washington last weekend, Fiat laid out a selection of its own
Italian automobiles, including Maserati a Fiat 500, and a 300
model by Fiat-owned Chrysler.
All of those models are owned by Fiat, which designs,
produces, and sells vehicles all over the world under such
well-known brand names as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Abarth, as
well as luxury and performance brands Ferrari and Maserati.
It is also involved in producing auto components through
Fiat Powertrain, Magneti Marelli, Teksid and Comau.
Indeed, for many people, there are few things more Italian
than the image of Fiat and its sporty, iconic cars that today
are sold in 150 countries around the world.
The Turin-based Fiat automotive group has been synonymous
with Italian style for more than a century, yet it has never
lost touch with its roots, despite a global success that
includes the takeover of American giant Chrysler.
Founded in 1899, Fiat took over bankrupt Chrysler in 2009
and, with an initial 20% stake in the company, turned its
fortunes around.
Fiat now owns about 60% of Michigan-based Chrysler which
these days, thanks to its strong sales in North America, is
contributing a great to deal to the Italian giant's bottom line.
At the same time, the company receives high rankings on
measures of economic, environmental and social sustainability on
the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
The Tour Around Italy collection of ANSA photographs,
representing various regions of Italy, focuses on six key
themes, including local handicrafts, food specialities, fashion
and style, important art, and Italian initiatives and excellence
in the field of science and research.
The exhibition will continue in Washington until May 25,
and in New York through June 2.
A free Apple Store application has also been created around
the exhibition, allowing virtual visits.
