Sollecito 'not a hero' for defending Knox

Washington, May 17 - The former boyfriend of Amanda
Knox who is accused with her in the murder of her British
flatmate reasserted their innocence Friday, denying that he was
a "hero" for defending Knox amid pressure from investigators.
"(Knox) told me that she thinks that I'm a kind of hero,
but I don't feel so," Sollecito told American broadcaster NBC.
"And I don't need any kind of gratitude. I did it because I
know it's the truth. It's the good thing to do. It's the only
way for me".
Sollecito began dating Knox just one week before her
British roommate Meredith Kercher was killed in 2007. Both were
later found guilty of murder, then acquitted in 2011.
But in March, Italy's supreme Court of Cassation overturned
the acquittal, setting the stage for a retrial at the appeals
When asked about his faith in the Italian justice system,
Sollecito said "I have faith in God. The Italian justice system,
is something like, you don't know what to expect".
