Berlusconi calls for 'shock law' to jumpstart economy


Rome, May 24 - Three-time premier Silvio Berlusconi
called for a "shock law" to relaunch the economy on Friday while
stumping for incumbent Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno.
Berlusconi, who bestows immense influence over members of
his center-right People of Freedom (PdL) party who sit in the
fledgling left-right government, said the law "should lower VAT
taxes, cut the claws of the Equitalia tax agency, and cut taxes
on hiring young people".
Alemanno, also of the PdL, is up for reelection Sunday and
