Cosenza, May 27 - Police on Monday said that a
17-year-old boy was arrested over the weekend for the brutal
stabbing and burning murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend,
Fabiana Luzzi, in the southern Italian town of Corigliano
Calabro.
"I stabbed her with a knife and then burned her while she
was still alive," the boy said during questioning over the
weekend.
The body of Luzzi, missing since Friday, was found after
the boy confessed to police, who became suspicious when he
admitted himself to a local hospital for burns to his hands and
chest.
"She attacked me and I killed her," the boy told
investigators.
Police tracked the boy down in the hospital after being
tipped off by the girls friends who described the boy as "quiet"
but also "jealous and violent".
The 17-year-old, who will turn 18 this summer, allegedly
stabbed the girl in an isolated area of the town, went home
where he found a can of gasoline, then returned to where Luzzi
was gravely injured and lit her on fire.
He is being held in the Catanzaro juvenile penitentiary.
Investigators said that he showed no remorse and continued
to repeat, "I am tired, let me sleep".
