Soccer: Osvaldo to miss Confederations over final furore

Rome, May 28 - Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has
decided AS Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo will not be part of his
squad for next month's Confederations Cup because of a furore
over his behaviour at the Italian Cup final.
Prandelli decided that Osvaldo broke his code of conduct
for the national team by refusing to take part in the awards
ceremony after Roma lost 1-0 to city rivals Lazio in Sunday's
Cup final.
Osvaldo has also been involved in an ugly spat with Roma
coach Aurelio Andreazzoli in relation to the painful defeat to
The striker, who has eight Italy caps, directed insults at
Andreazzoli at the final whistle after being left out of the
starting line-up and not brought into the action until the last
20 minutes of the match.
"Osvaldo is not new to scenes like this in front of the
cameras," Andreazzoli, who is expected to part company with Roma
after a disappointing campaign, said Monday.
"Then in private he might be a bit of a cry baby. It's his
problem, not mine.
"This behaviour came from a player who also represents the
national team, where ethics and correct behaviour are
cornerstones. But I repeat, it's his problem".
The Argentine-born player soon hit back at the jibe.
"He'd have come across better if he'd admitted he's
incompetent," Osvaldo said via his Twitter account,
@danistone25. "Go and celebrate with the Lazio fans".
Prandelli had not called the 27-year-old up for Italy's
friendly against San Marino in Bologna on Friday and he is
suspended for next week's World Cup qualifier against the Czech
Republic in Prague.
