M5s calls for a reduction in legal voting age to 16 years


Rome, May 29 - The legal age for voting should be
lowered to 16 years, the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement
(M5S) said Wednesday.
The group has tabled a motion in the Senate suggesting
reforms to electoral laws.
Currently, Italians must be 18 to vote for a member of the
Chamber of Deputies, and 25 to vote for senators.
"Our goal is first to allow young citizens to participate,"
in voting, said M5S Senator Nicola Morra.
