Rainfall in northern Italy highest recorded in 150 years


Rome, May 30 - Although everyone complains about
the weather, northern Italians really were justified in their
gripes this year as the region suffered its rainiest spring in
at least 150 years, authorities said Thursday.
In many parts of the Emilia Romagna region, as well as
Veneto, Tuscany and Liguria, rainfall between March and May was
among the highest since records were kept at least 150 years
And temperatures in the area will likely prove to be the
lowest since 1991, added Daniele Cat Berro of the Italian
Meteorological Society.
"In cities like Parma, Piacenza and other areas of the
northeast, record rainfall was recorded in the last three
months...overall, in fact, rainfall in these locations was the
highest ever recorded," said Cat Berro.
But things are looking up for June, said Antonio Sano'
director of the webpage
He thinks that although temperatures in May might have hit
lows not seen since the 1980s, the mercury should rise in
Italian thermometers to normal, hot levels by the first week of
