Milan, May 31 - Friends and family gathered at the
funeral for actress and social activist Franca Rame on Friday
sang the partisan tune Bella Ciao and dressed in red, as she
requested before her death on Wednesday.
Rame was entombed in the Famedio Monumental Cemetery in
Milan next to Milanese singer-songwriter Enzo Jannacci.
Husband and Nobel Prize-winning writer Dario Fo read a
monologue that he said was "pertinent to the dramatic situation"
he and his son Jacopo were experiencing after her death.
The piece, written by Rame, revisits the story of
creation, with Eve faced with the choice of the forbidden fruit
and eternal damnation or knowledge.
"Eternity doesn't interest me, but knowing, knowledge and
having doubts interest me greatly," Fo read.
The piece was posted in full Thursday evening on comedian
Beppe Grillo's 5-Star Movement's website by Fo.
Grillo, a long-time family friend, attended Rame's
funeral.
