Rome, May 31 - Three women held a 'FEMEN' style
demonstration, stripping off their shirts in front of Italy's
Higher Health Institute on Friday with "healthy breasts if I
don't smoke" written across their chests.
Ukraine-based feminist group FEMEN has gained worldwide
recognition for topless protests at high-profile events and
locations, including Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and in front
of the Vatican during the conclave that elected Pope Francis.
Friday's protest was staged by Italian-based feminist
group Articolo 32 and was held on the International Day Against
Smoking.
A flier handed out by the women at the protest read "2.2
million Italians have been diagnosed with tumors, of whom the
half are women and 500,000 have breast tumors.
"Smoking kills one person every six seconds (around the
world) and of the six million who die (yearly) from
smoking-related illnesses, 600,000 are non-smokers".
