Rome, June 3 - A 24-hour national public transport
strike caused major inconvenience for Rome commuters on Monday,
although it had a more limited impact in other major Italian
cities.
The strike called by called by the Fast Confsal union
completely shuttered the Metro A line in Rome, while runs were
reduced for the Italian capital's buses, trains and trams.
Milan's transport authority ATM expected sluggish movement
of buses and trams due to the strike, but three out of four
metro lines were expected to run normally, with delays only on
the M3.
Turin's transport system was working normally, while the
proportion of workers striking in Naples was under 10%,
according to Naples' Mobility Agency.
The strike began at 8:30 in Rome, but will be suspended to
allow regular service during the evening rush hour, from 17:00 -
20:00.
