Madrid, June 4 - Fully 100 people were arrested in
Italy and another 30 in Spain on Tuesday following a massive
anti-mafia drug operation involving authorities in both
countries.
Police say that most of those caught were part of the
Naples-based Camorra mafia clan of Giuseppe Polverino, who was
arrested in Spain last March.
Arrests are continuing, authorities add.
It's believed the Polverino clan organized a vast drug
trafficking network in Europe, particularly along the Spanish
Mediterranean coast, bringing in hash from Morocco.
The clan also operated some gambling rings.
According to investigators, proceeds from the clan's crimes
were reinvested in Spain through legal real-estate and catering
operations in such cities as Malaga, Alicante, Tarragona, Ceuta,
Cadiz and Castellon.
The investigation broke open with the March arrest of
Polverino and one of his key employees, Raffaeele Vallefuoco,
