Terni mayor requires stitches for head wound after protest

Terni, June 5 - The mayor of the Umbrian city of
Terni was injured Wednesday when he was struck on the head by a
truncheon as police clashed with protesting steelworkers.
Photos showed blood streaming from the top of Leopoldo Di
Girolamo's head as he went for medical treatment.
He required two stitches to close the gash.
It was not immediately clear who struck the mayor as police
closed in on steelworkers who were marching towards the city's
main rail station.
A city inspector said he was also roughed up in the melee.
