German finance minister says relations good with Italy

Berlin, June 13 - Germany's finance minister on
Thursday said his government's relationship with Italy was very
positive, and that he expected the current administration to
carry on with economic reforms.
"Relations between the Italian and German governments are
in full confidence and very good," Wolfgang Schaeuble told ANSA
on the eve of a summit in Rome of economy and labor ministers
from Italy, France, Germany and Spain.
He added that he believed Italian Premier Enrico Letta
would move forward with the economic reforms started by his
predecessor, Mario Monti, whose term at the height of the euro
crisis was marked by controversial austerity measures aimed at
thwarting a Greece-like disaster, but in turn are widely blamed
for deepening Italy's ongoing recession.
"I'm confident that Letta's government, members of whom
I've known for years in different circumstances, will
successfully continue (the policies)," said Schaeuble.
