Soccer: New Roma boss promises fun and fearlessness


Rome, June 19 - Rudi Garcia promised his team would
play attractive, winning soccer on Wednesday when he was
presented as AS Roma's new coach.
"I'm not scared of anything," the 49-year-old Frenchman
told a press conference.
"I'm here to win with a team that must give the fans a good
"I already know the city, it is full of history, and I know
that this team have great ambitions".
Garcia said both captain Francesco Totti and Italy
midfielder Daniele De Rossi are part of his plans.
There have been doubts about the future of both
footballers, born-and-bred Romans who have played for no other
club as pros.
Totti, 36, is looking to extend his contract, which expires
next year.
There has been speculation, meanwhile, that De Rossi might
be sold in the closed season after coming under fire from some
Roma fans last season for several poor displays.
"You'll see during the season that I'm a coach who gives
great importance to having a team that needs talented players,"
said Garcia.
"Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi are important
"Totti will have an important role on and off the field.
"De Rossi is a national-team player and I can't wait to
meet him and the others".
