Plane missing with Italian tourists since 2008 found


Caracas, June 20 - A double-engine plane carrying
14 passengers, eight of them Italian tourists, that disappeared
in 2008 off the coast of Venezuela has been found, local
authorities announced on Thursday.
The chartered flight was 20 minutes in route towards the
popular tourist destination of Los Roques on January 4 that year
when the pilot called for help.
To date, the only body recovered from the accident was the
co-pilot, who most likely was thrown or ejected from the plane
before it crashed into the water.
The Let 410-YV-2081 run by the private company Transven
was found "nine kilometers south of Los Roques and 970 metres
underwater," the Venezuelan Interior Minister Miguel Rodriguez
Torres said.
The bodies of Stefano Frangione, Fabiola Napoli, Paola
Durante, Bruna Guarnieri and her daughters Sofia and Emma, Rita
Calanni and Annalisa Montanari are believed to be in the plane
together with the five other Venezuelans and a Swiss tourist.
On January 4, 2013 a plane on the same route carrying
Italian fashion chief Vittorio Missoni, his wife Maurizia
Castiglioni and four others went missing and has yet to be
