Letta vows second round of jobs measures for youth

Rome, June 25 - Italian Premier Enrico Letta struck
an urgent tone with the Lower House on Tuesday ahead of a
European Union summit this week and promised a new wave of
measures addressing youth unemployment.
"A tough debate awaits us (in Brussels)," said Letta.
"The shadows hanging over the strength of the single
currency have yet to be definitively dispelled.
"If (the European economy) stops, all is lost".
The summit June 27-28 will focus on the European economy
and boosting youth unemployment.
Since taking the reigns of government in April, Letta has
pressed for greater international attention to creating jobs for
young people.
Italy's jobless rate has hit a record high of 12% and
around four in 10 young people aged 15-24 are out of work.
"In the coming months we will launch a second package of
measures (directed towards youth unemployment)," said Letta on
the floor of the Lower House.
