PdL proposes jailing those who interfere with rallies

Rome, July 10 - Anyone who tries to break up a
political rally should be thrown in jail for up to three years,
says proposed legislation presented Wednesday by a member of
ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party.
The proposal comes after clashes during a party-sponsored
rally in Brescia held in support of Berlusconi last month and
his numerous battles with the courts.
PdL member Ignatius Abrignani said a fine of up to 2,500
euros should also be slapped on anyone interfering with a
political rally.
And jail terms of up to five years could apply if a public
official interferes with a rally, added Abrignani.
The bill comes as supporters of Berlusconi are again
gearing up for protests against Italy's criminal courts for
convicting the ex-premier of having sex with a minor and abusing
his office to cover up the affair.
