Soccer: Eight players face match-fixing charges

Rome, July 10 - Lazio captain Stefano Mauri is
facing charges of match-fixing related to soccer games in May
2011, prosecutor Stefano Palazzi announced Wednesday.
The matches included Lazio versus Genoa on May 14, 2011 and
Lecce versus Lazio a week later, on May 22, 2011, according to
Palazzi, prosecutor for the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC).
Another seven players as well as Mauri have been referred
for disciplinary action by Palazzi for offences involving the
violation of fair sporting principles.
Those include Omar Milanetto, Mario Cassano, Carlo
Gervasoni, Alessandro Zamperini, Massimiliano Benassi, Stefano
Ferrario and Antonio Rosati.
All three teams involved in the May 2011 games are facing
charges related to their corporate liability.
Charges relate to a series of criminal probes into
betting-related match-fixing in Serie A and lower levels of
Italian soccer.
Over 40 people have been arrested since the Cremona-based
'Last Bet' criminal probe went public two years ago, leading
sporting prosecutors to look at the cases.
