Rome, July 11 - Eighty-one women were killed in
Italy in the first half of 2013, 75% of whom were slain by
family members or intimates, a joint report by the Italian
social economic research group EURES and ANSA revealed on
Thursday.
Between 2000 and 2012, there were 2,200 women murder
victims in Italy, or an average of 171 per year - about one
every other day.
Yet Italy was among Europe's least prone to femicide, while
Germany was the most, in the countries studied.
Germany saw 350 women killed in 2009, or 49.6% of the total
murder count of 706 victims that year.
France ranked second with 288 women victims, or 34.3% of
total murders in 2009.
The United Kingdom came in third with 245 femicides, or
33.9% of total murders in 2009.
