Soccer: Germany's Gomez lands at Fiorentina

Florence, July 15 - Germany forward Mario
Gomez landed in Florence on Monday to do a medical with
Fiorentina and complete his move from Bayern Munich.
Signing a world-class player like Gomez is a major coup for
Fiorentina, who are not among the big Serie A sides that
regularly contend for the Italian title and will take part in
the Europa League next season after finishing fourth last term.
Gomez won a Champions League-Bundesliga-German Cup treble
with Bayern in the campaign just ended.
The 28-year-old scored 113 goals in all competitions after
joining Bayern in 2009.
But he wanted to move on after being forced to play second
fiddle last season to new signing from Wolfsburg, Croatia's
Mario Mandzukic.
The German-Spanish centre-forward would have slipped
farther down the pecking order under new coach Pep Guardiola
because of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski's move from beaten
Champions finalist Borussia Dortmund.
"Today is a beautiful day, one for me to remember," Gomez
said after arriving in Italy.
"I'm very happy to be here".
