Italian screenwriter Vincenzo Cerami dies


Rome, July 17 - Italian screenwriter and author
Vincenzo Cerami who was nominated for an Oscar in 1999 for
Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful died on Wednesday.
He was 72.
Cerami was born in Rome to Sicilian parents and studied in
middle school under future film director and writer Pier Paolo
Pasolini, whose cousin Graziella Chiarcossi he later married.
His first novel in 1976, An Average Little Man (Un
Borghese Piccolo Piccolo) was turned into a acclaimed film with
the lead played by Italian screen legend in Alberto Sordi.
Cerami, who wrote more than 40 films since 1967, created
the screenplay for Benigni's 1988 film starring Walter Matthau,
The Little Devil (Il Piccolo Diavolo) and The Tiger and the Snow
(2005) that also stars Benigni and features singer-songwriter
Tom Waits.
