Rome, July 18 - Integration Minster Cecile Kyenge,
the subject of repeated racial slurs since her appointment in
April, said the government was considering new laws against hate
speech.
The government is committed "to the fight against racism
and xenophobia," she added.
The measures would specifically target hate speech on the
Web and social networks, she said.
"Racism needs to be fought culturally," said Kyenge. "The
change I'm calling for must be aided by communication".
Under current law, Northern League Deputy Senate
Speaker Roberto Calderoli is being investigated by prosecutors
for aggravated defamation and incitement of racial hatred for
comparing Kyenge over the weekend to an orangutan.
