Italian youth taking more drugs


Rome, July 24 - Drug use in Italy is dropping with
the exception Italian youth, a report by the country's anti-drug
department said on Wednesday.
So far in 2013, marijuana use was up 2.29% compared to
2012, the report said.
The survey of 34,385 students aged 15-19 years said that
21.43% of those polled had smoked marijuana one or more times in
the last 12 months, up from 19.4% in 2012.
Cocaine use was also up to 2.01% compared to 1.86% in
2012, heroin up to 0.33% (0.32% in 2012), as well as the
consumption of stimulants such as methamphetamine, registered at
1.33% (1.12% in 2012) and hallucinogens use up to 2.08% from
1.72% in 2012.
The number of Internet sites that sell or promote the use
of marijuana have reached 800,000 compared to the 2008 number of
about 200,000.
