Government steps back on smoking ban in cars

Rome, July 26 - A proposed ban on smoking in cars
in which pregnant women and children are travelling will be put
to debate in parliament, officials said Friday.
A bill containing the measure was presented by Health
Minister Beatrice Lorenzin at a meeting of Premier Enrico
Letta's cabinet.
However, the government decided there should be a full
debate first to raise public awareness of what would be "an
innovative rule" and has left it out of the bill for now.
Smoking in public and work places that are indoors is
already against the law in Italy.
The bill would also ban smoking, both of traditional and
electronic cigarettes, in outdoor areas at schools, such as
their gardens, car parks, court yards and playgrounds.
