Soccer: Milan deny foul play over Ljajic bid

New York, August 5 - AC Milan have denied
Fiorentina's accusations of foul play in their bid to sign Serb
forward Adem Ljajic from the Florence club.
Fiorentina director Paolo Panerai said Saturday that Milan
had "broken the rules" by approaching Ljajic, who has a year
left on his contract.
Fiorentina issued a statement on their website Sunday
saying that, while Panerai's comments were "personal
reflections", they deemed Milan's bid for the 22-year-old to be
"definitely late and certainly inopportune".
"We have not done anything wrong," said Milan CEO Adriano
Galliani after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in a friendly during a
tour of the United States.
"We limited ourselves to making an offer within the period
of the transfer market".
Galliani added that did not think it was possible for
Milan to pursue talks with Fiorentina for Ljajic, after they
offered eight million euros for the player.
Fiorentina missed out qualifying for the Champion League
preliminaries last term, finishing fourth behind Milan, who beat
Siena 2-1 on the last day of the season with some controversial
refereeing decisions going their way.
