Rome, August 6 - Rome authorities have confirmed
that they have filed a complaint for damage to public property
from a rally held in support of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi
following a court decision to uphold a tax-fraud sentence
against the media magnate last week.
Police said that traffic signals were removed on Sunday to
make way for an improvised stage were Berlusconi addressed the
crowd and were then put back faultily using the wrong screws and
welding method.
Another sign indicating a 24-hour no-parking zone that was
misplaced under a non-entry area had to be moved by city
workers.
People of Freedom (PdL) rally organizers have been cited
and could pay a fine of 4,500 euros.
"A stage was never authorized for the PdL rally," Rome
city officials said.
PdL members have accused the city administration of being
"biased without limits".
"One wonders if the problem is not the event, but the
ideas of the demonstrators," PdL organizers said.
