Pope urges pilgrims to meet those in need


Vatican City, August 7 - Pope Francis emphasised
the importance of "encountering those in need" in a video
message to pilgrims gathering for the feast day of St Cajetan in
Argentina on Tuesday.
"Being a Christian means not doing so from afar, but going
out and meeting those with anxieties and problems," the pope
The Italian patron saint of the unemployed and job-seekers,
honored on August 7, draws thousands of pilgrims to his shrine
in the Liniers neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
Pope Francis said in the message that St Cajetan set an
example to be followed when he left a life of privilege to work
with the poor.
Last year the pontiff, who was then Cardinal Jorge
Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, celebrated the feast day
in Argentina.
On Wednesday, he urged followers to "build a culture of
encounter because there is always someone worse off than us".
By going out and encountering the most needy, "we multiply
our capacity to love," the pope said.
