Environmental prize to be presented at Venice Film Festival

Venice, August 26 - Organizers of the historic
Venice Film Festival together with the environmental
organization Green Cross and the city of Venice said on Monday
that a special award for the most environmentally sensitive work
will be presented for the second year running at this year's
70th edition.
The Green Drop Award will be presented to the film deemed
as best portraying the values of ecology and sustainable
development, the preservation of the planet and its ecosystems,
as well as cooperation between peoples.
Italian film director and screenwriter Mimmo Calopresti
will head the jury, which will also include actress Ottavia
Piccolo and climate expert Vincenzo Ferrara.
Twenty films will be competing for the prize - a
drop-shaped vase, blown by a master glassmaker, containing a
sample of earth from each country that entered a work.
"The drop symbolizes the strength of each small action and
the power of film, which can stimulate our daily behavior and
make us more attentive to the environment," said a release by
the city of Venice.
