Savona, August 26 - A man who claimed for years to
be broke, yet actually owned luxury cars and took expensive
vacations, has been nabbed by Italian tax authorities.
The 58-year-old man, who lived for 40 years in Italy, tried
his best to appear destitute, putting his penthouse apartment in
his ex-wife's name, another in his son's name, and registered
his BMW as belonging to a friend - all to try to avoid attention
from tax authorities, they said Monday.
He also worked as an engineering consultant to large firms,
earning a high salary that he tried to conceal, they added.
He stands accused of false billing as well as tax evasion.
