Rome, August 29 - The 17-year-old daughter of Cosa
Nostra boss Matteo Messina Denaro has rebelled against her
father and convinced her mother to move away from the family
home, according to a report due out on Friday in Italian weekly
L'Espresso.
The unnamed girl "wants to live far away from her father's
relatives. This is a revolutionary choice as it rings like a
challenge to the usual Cosa Nostra code", according to a preview
of the article.
"Despite how much I want affection from this person,
unfortunately this person is not present at my side and will
never be present because of destiny," the girl is quoted as
saying in the article.
She has never seen her father, according to investigators,
though on the day of his birthday she published a simple red
heart without any comment by it on her Facebook profile.
The magazine article also contains the first published
photos of Messina Denaro's daughter, as well as images of her
mother, the partner of the organized crime boss.
Messina Denaro, considered in the world's top 10
most-wanted criminals, took over as Mafia chief following the
arrest of boss of bosses Bernardo Provenzano in 2006.
Authorities have been trying to locate him for 20 years.
He became widely known in April 2001 when L'Espresso put
him on the cover with the headline: "Here is the new boss of the
Mafia".
In its recent article, L'Espresso writes about a series of
failed attempts to capture him in Palermo as well as in Northern
Italy.
