Italian police catch 'key-bump' burglar gang

Rome, September 6 - A specialized criminal gang
that managed to break into homes and garages without leaving a
trace hit at least 55 locations in northern Italy before being
caught, police said Friday.
Police arrested six gang members in Turin and another four
are under investigation for break-ins dating back to December
2012 in the regions of Piedmont and Liguria.
The thieves used a technique police have termed "key
bumping" which allows the robbers to force cylinder door locks
without leaving any signs.
Last month in Rome, police nabbed 37 members of a criminal
gang - most from the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia - for
breaking into homes around Rome using a similar technique.
