Pope Francis visits refugees in Rome centre


Rome, September 10 - Pope Francis visited refugees
at the Astalli Centre in downtown Rome on Tuesday.
The Jesuit refugee centre has five locations in Italy and
last year helped 34,300 people - 21,000 in Rome alone -
according to the Astalli website.
The centre hosts new arrivals in Italy, and helps
additional refugees to integrate into the Italian workplace and
The pontiff was greeted by Cardinal Agostino Vallini, the
Vicar General of Rome, and by the centre's director Father
Giovanni La Manna.
Entering the cafeteria, the pope met with some refugees,
most of whom were from Africa.
