Rotation of cruise ship hull likely in coming days

Grosseto, September 10 - Authorities gave approval
Tuesday to begin steps that should lead to the safe removal of
the sunken Costa Concordia cruise ship.
Testing is expected to begin immediately that should lead
to a rotation of the hull of the submerged cruise ship next
If all goes as planned, that rotation could be completed by
month's end, a key step in the process of eventually lifting the
massive ship off the rocks of Tuscany's Giglio Island, where the
Concordia sank killing 32 people in January 2012.
Much more time will be needed, however, before the
Concordia can be actually removed from the area around Giglio,
officials have said.
But rotating the hull is expected to make the wreck more
stable and ensure it can be removed, possibly next spring.
