Pope says not to forget family violence during Social Week

Vatican City, September 12 - Families torn apart by
violence must not be forgotten during Social Week for Italian
Catholics, Pope Francis said Thursday.
"Never forget" the sufferings of families where violence is
present because of internal conflicts due to failures, angers
and frustrations, the Pope said in a message opening Social
Week, which is focused on families this year.
Francis also said that the Catholic Church officially
abides by the Bible's definition of a family as being a union of
men and women, adding that cultural choices also have an impact.
"May this Social Week contribute effectively to
highlight...the promotion of the common good of the family based
on marriage, beyond prejudices and ideologies," concluded
Meanwhile, Turin Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco said the
institution of the family is a "fundamental right" that should
not be undermined.
"Destabilizing the family means destabilizing the person
and undermines society," said the cardinal, president of the
powerful Italian Bishops Conference (CEI).
