Turin, September 12 - The head of Italy's biggest
trade confederation on Thursday called on the government to
consider introducing policies to bring new carmakers to the
Eurozone's third-largest economy, so as to offset the grip Fiat
- Italy's largest carmaker - has on the local labour and
production market.
"We ask the government to make Fiat face up to its
responsibilities, but we also propose another issue: can we not
imagine the introduction of policies that could attract another
producer?" GCIL chief Susanna Camusso said.
"Isn't it about time we stop thinking that producing cars
in our country only means Fiat, and to recognize the fact that
Fiat's dominance in this sector here has penalized us, and to
start initiating the introduction of policies that could attract
another producer?" Camusso added.
